Who's Gatsby?

The life of a party of the rich and famous is not a new thing. People in the 1920’s have been doing it and so did decades before it. But it’s not very often that the twenties travel in time to the new millennia. This coming 2012 Holidays another book adaptation will come to life. From the classic novel the “Great Gatsby” by legendary F. Scott Fitzgerald another movie awaits literary fans. Starring premiere Hollywood actors Leonardo DiCaprio, Toby Maguire and Carey Mulligan in what seems like a 20’s meets the future setting. It is the story of the mysterious man and his quest for lost and found love told by a narrator Nick Carraway (Toby). Behind the weekly thrown luxurious and ostentatious parties was a motive to track the girl of his dreams. Soon after socializing with high society crowd, sorting through flapper clad-women and all night jazz music the search was over. Read up on the novel before this awaited Baz Luhrmann film shows on the big screen.

Make Room for Bloggers United 3

Bloggers United 3 is fast approaching, have you already prepared your outfit? Turns out you have a closet full of clothes yet thinks there’s nothing to wear. I guess Houston, we’ve got a problem! Your closet may be overflowing but probably not mostly with clothes you do wear. There’s that old high school uniform at the back, worn out jeans you’ve had since grade school or a pile of baby tees you haven’t worn for a year. I think it’s time to de-clutter your closet to make room for new ones!

Bollywood Creations

In designer collections, inspiration is the key. Jun Jun Cambe was evidently inspired by the beauty of Indian fashion and culture for his Holiday 2012 collection in Philippine Fashion Week. It opened with a throng of eco-friendly and naturally dyed fabrics. There were variations of sari wrap dresses and Jodhpur numbers for the shirt less men. The collection flowed from simple to elegant as the latter part showcased beaded wonders. There was a selection of rich colored evening gowns with abundant fleck of gold. The veteran designer ended the show with extravagant ball gowns perfect for Indian special occasions.  It’s a true to life Bollywood surprise in Philippine shore.

New Age Power

This Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2012 showcased a variety of designs. One of which is Ronaldo Arnaldo’s collection which carried a line of not so ordinary yet wearable pieces. “A New Age of Power Dressing” was its fashion philosophy for the following season. The collection’s color scheme was inspired by metal elements mainly of graphite and black with sprinkles of gold, silver, cobalt blue and purple. The outfits sent a masculine meets feminine vibe through tailored pieces of pantsuits and jackets.  A play of heavy wool and lacy detailing were brought down the runway especially with a numerous number of “little gray dresses”. It was full of structured tops and stand out cuts topped off with Wonder Woman-esque bangles. The clothes will truly bring out the superhero in women’s work wear.

High Fashion Film

Have you ever watched a Cannes Film besides from the one showed on Mr. Bean on Holiday? Well then here’s a very short film that will surely suit your taste. It’s presented by Prada and directed by Roman Polanski no less. The almost 3-minute video could only be described in two words – High+Fashion. Take it to Prada to pull it off with a sensational cast. “A Therapy” starring Helena Bonham Carter and Sir Ben Kingsley. The storyline focused on Helena obviously going to her therapist where she babbled about loneliness. She continues on her rant regarding her wealth as a curse and why she’s lost and alone. Meanwhile an exquisite purple Prada fur coat distracted Sir Ben Kingsley. His flamboyant taste pulled him towards it where he touched and caressed its softness. And that’s how “Prada Suits Everyone”. Watch the wonderful short clip below.

Designer Feature: Zac Posen

Zac Posen, one of the hottest young designers in America, presented a 25-piece collection in the recent Audi Fashion Festival. The show was part of the Asia Fashion Exchange that took place in Singapore last May 14-20. The fair was to promote Singapore’s stand in the fashion circuit as well as to gather different international brands mainly coming from neighboring Asian countries. The collection was a mixture suit pieces, cocktail dresses and stunning evening gowns. The color scheme focused on a red palette together with other rich deep colors and a few neutral numbers. Soft drama surrounded the area as signature Posen silhouette in immaculate fitted clothes were brought down the runway. A few floral pieces gave a touch of print in the mostly monochromatic roster. Evening gowns in sweetheart bodice and fish tail cuts varied in colors. A soft red ball gown in impeccable geometric folds was the show favorite. The whole collection is perfect for that strong yet feminine woman.
